Spells

1. Witches cast spells: Yes, they do however, it takes a lot of time and a lot of personal energy. Enough time and enough energy, that few Witches will create a spell without damn good reason.

In addition, there are ethical considerations as well. A true Witch, a real Witch, does not create a spell for money or other boons. Those are called con-artists or if they are really good at their marketing techniques? Thieves. Most Witches follow an unwritten code of ethics. We do not interfere in the wills or lives of others. We do not charge for our doings. That includes divination by the way. In my world, once you charge? You have polluted your gift and it is forever lessened in its intrinsic value to you, as an individual. Agree or not. Don't much give a rat's patootie. This is how it is in my world. Pick your own ethics and values for yours. I don't fault those who charge, that's their business, pun intended.

Forget love spells directed at a specific individual; that is a definitive no-no. And in all likelihood will come back and bite you in the butt. We do not interfere with the will of another human being. True love is magick all on its own. If you have earned that love, it will find you. The only way to earn it? Is to begin by loving and respecting yourself. If you don't like or love yourself? How, on earth, can you expect someone else to love and respect you? Rhetorical question, you can't expect it.

Spells to aid healing of the mind, body and soul are perfectly acceptable. You are not interfering, you are supplying aid. You would do this in the physical realm, and so it is acceptable in the ethereal realm.

Spells for financial gain? Tricky but do-able. Your intent is of paramount importance whenever constructing spells, hexes or curses. Intent is all. Spells have to be broken down like a complicated equation. Will anyone suffer adverse effects through your actions? If there is one iota of possibility that someone else may be deprived, harmed or hurt, in any way? Then scrap that plan and move on. If your financial need is the result of your own actions, perhaps irresponsible spending, avoiding the job market or simply not understanding that bills need to be paid before pleasure is indulged? That is your tough luck, frankly. Witchcraft demands, doesn't request politely, it demands personal accountability. There are no acceptable excuses. Tough but there you have it. Reality bites.

The most effective spells are those that are created in a coven setting. The reasoning is simple, there is more energy available for the creation and execution of the thing. A spell done by a Solitary Witch (one without a coven affliliation) is entirely possible, it simply requires more concentrated effort and directed energy to complete.

2.
How do I create a spell? First, forget the whole poetic thing, the rhymes - that's not only totally without merit, most often the spells sound downright silly. It isn't the wording, it isn't what colour candle or scented incense you use, it is and I cannot stress this enough, it is your INTENT. The candles, the incense, the crystals are all focal points. They are simply "things" that you may need to focus your intent. Eventually, you won't need them but they may prove useful in the beginning. However, they are NOT necessary.

Spells are intensely personal things, and as it is your intent being manifest? Then you have to create said spell, start to finish. You are the only one responsible for the creation and the ultimate manipulations that occur. A spell from a book is not yours. It is the creation of someone else, who - let's face it - is simply trying to sell a book. You don't need pompous sounding phrases to manipulate energy. Energy has no respect or use for poetry. You are far better off learning the basic rules of physics, particularly, "For every action, there is a reaction." Learning to analyze what reaction you may create is the end all and be all of the spellcrafting art. Analyze. Analyze again. Write down your analysis and then analyze your analysis.

Are you beginning to see how difficult this spellcrafting thing truly is? A candle and a few herbs are not going to create your spell. You are the sole creator. The sole author of the spell and it's impact on you. It will impact, you have to decide whether or not you are ready to accept the responsibility of the reaction. You have to be totally sure that your action is not going to have a negative impact on someone else because the negative impact will reverberate in your own life. It is the reaction to your action.

3.
Can I Cancel A Spell, If I've Made A Mistake? No. Not maybe, not possibly. The answer is NO. Once the energy has been released? That's it. Game over. There is not and can never be an "I'm sorry, I made a boo-boo." You are working with energy. Energy has no conscience, it simply exists to complete a job that it has been created to do. You can, perhaps, find a method to minimize the damage but there will be a reaction. There has to be. It is a physical law and you are working in the world of physical laws. You are working with energy, as yet undefined for the most part, but it is a form of energy.

Like lightening, it can be diverted perhaps, the damage minimalized but there will be damage. This is why a spell must undergo careful analysis. This is why a spell must take a huge amount of thought, time and examination. You can't apologize or "take it back" later. Spells are truly the definition of "What is done, is done."

Spells are an excellent indicator of your morals, ethics and values. Spells can be great teachers if your ethics and morals need work. You can't worm your way out of a spell created through selfish motivation. You can cry, plead or bat your baby blues and get away with bad behaviour. You can apologize after. There is no "Ooops!, I was wrong!" in the art of spellcrafting.

Hopefully, this page as offered you an insight into the world of Witches. There is no power, no glamour, no sparkling fairy dust. It is a hard world of making the right choice, in being an intensely responsible person. It is, in direct opposition to the sceptics claims, a place of reality. Of logic. Of equations. Of consequences.

It is not a world that allows for immaturity or childish mistakes. It is a world of grown-ups who understand what it takes to make the commitment required to wear the mantle of a Witch.

Calling yourself one, don't make it so.
