That Witchy Stuff
Magick and Ethics
Here is the less than fun part; the admonishments, the warnings and cautions.
If you are a Witch? Then, my dears, you have opened a door to your
unconscious or subconscious that can never be closed. From here on in?
You have to put a regulator on your emotions. You have to watch everything you do. It doesn't matter if you suddenly become a Born Again.
It doesn't matter if your belief has been replaced by Atheism; that door is driven by the laws of physics. You started the wheels in motion and now? Those wheels are perpetual. Too late for "Whoops."
Regardless of the chest beatings of the Fundamentalists; the devil has nothing to do with this. This is a human thing. An energy/science thing. The devil only exists if you want him/her to exist.
The door you opened? No one can shut it.
Forget the whole Rede malarkey; the return 3 times stuff. It is far more logical than that. Did you take physics in school? More to the point, did you pay attention when you took physics in school? If you didn't, go back and take a night course. You'll need it if you want to fool around with Magick.
Newton's Third Law of Motion. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Consider what this tells you; EVERY action. EVERY ACTION pertains to Magick, as it is a force. You are creating a stream of energy to manipulate other energies. You are creating a force and with that direction of force? There will be a reaction.
Therefore, you have to think, long and hard about the Magick you are creating. What are the possible ramifications? This is where that psychics class comes in. You must be able to examine all the angles or you may wind up with egg on your face, or worse. See the big picture, see it clearly. Do the math.
NEVER AND I DO MEAN NEVER create (cast) Magick in anger. I don't care how much he or she hurt you or how much that manager pisses you off; NEVER AND I DO MEAN NEVER cast in anger. It interferes with your logic and your ability to see things in the larger perspective.
Magick is a powerful force with which to work. You have to be in total control of your emotions and even more important, you have to fully understand what is motivating your intent.
Does this mean you can never pull off a good hex, even if it is, obviously, needed? Absolutely not. Hex away but cover all your angles. Ensure that the reaction that will come and yes, there WILL be a reaction, won't come back and bite you in the ass.
I have an Old Witches' Tale for you; its a part of modern Witch lore. Did it happen? We all know someone who says it happened to a friend or someone they met on the internet but is it truth or Urban Legend?
In this case? It doesn't matter as it is an illustration and a great little parable for you.
It seems there was this young lady. She was very lonely. Her love life was non-existent. No tall, dark stranger in her future. She was a Witch, or so she thought. Her spell and the lack of forethought belies her claim.
She decided that she would bring love into her life. Not anyone in particular (Mistake #1), just someone with whom she could share her life, a bowl of popcorn on a Saturday night. Someone to hold and someone, for whom to care. Love. One of the most popular spells with which novice Witches fool with and one of the most dangerous.
So Little Miss Lonely gathers up her stuff, rose quartz and rose petals, pink candles and soft incense. Creates a little magick for herself. Love, she wants love, desperately, in her life.
Spell cast and now she waits. (Mistake #2) Psychologically? She is setting herself up. Every man that walks in and out of her life makes her wonder if HE is the one. The one she conjured. In her search, she leaves herself vulnerable (Mistake #3). She isn't thinking clearly or logically (Mistakes 4 & 5). Men come into her life and then leave it.
Then one morning, she wakes up and feels ghastly. She's tired all the time and feels very out of sorts. Then. She misses her period. Yup. She's pregnant. Single, not much in the way of money and now? Alone and pregnant. The father is not a positive. She isn't quite sure.
So, Young Witch has brought love into her life but not in the form she had ever conceived (no pun intended) as a result to her Magick.
Let's look at this from a cold, logical perspective, shall we? Young Witch is lonely. Past relationships gone. First order of business is to examine why past relationships failed. One thing people tend to forget in the whole relationship/love business is that in order for someone to love us, the way we want them to love us? We have to have love for ourselves.
This is where a lot of people fall down. Women in particular. Simply because a man wants to have sex with you, does not mean that he wants to spend time with you. Sex and love are two very different things.
Sex is a biological function, a physical need that can easily be satisfied.
Love on the other hand? Takes a lot of work. It is never satisfied. There will always be some sort of effort to be made, concessions, compromise and caring. Lots and lots of caring.
In creating this spell, we can tell a little something about the character of this woman. She has low self-esteem. She needs someone else in her life in order to be happy. She isn't happy with herself as company. It lacks somehow.
She is far too much the novice to be fooling around with Magick. We can determine this because of the type of spell she is creating. Love is a very strong force. People have died for love. Pined away for love and ruined their lives for love. It doesn't get much stronger than that.
She is vulnerable. She "wants." This makes her easy prey because she is looking for love, (old cliche), in all the wrong places. Using, obviously, all the wrong methods. She sees potential love in all the men who walk into her life and then, do an about-face and leave. Instead of sitting down and contemplating the reasons behind these events; she continues on...looking for Mr. Prince-on-a-White-Horse.
In the end, her spell did, in fact, work. It didn't work as she wanted it to work because ??? Her intent was wrong. Her focus was too wide. Most important, she had not examined all the angles.
A simple spell, right? But the focus was wrong, the energies too strong and the Witch? Unable to understand the concept of intent.
One practices Magick and it does take a lot of practice. Just make sure that in the early stages, you understand the laws of physics and have a good handle on your own psyche.
