Lillith, Eve and Evil Women - The Reprise
Eve, Lillith and the Evil Women Do
Was 'talking' with someone this morning and a few things came to mind regarding women - historically speaking. Has anyone else noticed that the women who dared question, dared defy norms/orders were damned? You only have to look to early mythologies to see it - poor Lilith and her successor - Eve.
Lilith refused to be 'under' Adam - (sexual connotations aside) and what happened to her? She was turned into a demoness and forced to give birth to an unacceptable number of demons per day. In her spare time? She became a succubus - ostensibly to fertilize those demonic eggs. And with the rest of her time, she was reputedly the consort of Samael. Tongue in cheek? If she managed to do all of this in a single day? Man, she has my admiration. 3 kids was more than enough to keep me busy and that was over a much longer time frame.
Then there is the Eve mythology - she was fine, up to a point, being 'under' Adam but when given the opportunity to share in knowledge? She grabbed it - screw Adam - knowledge was of far more interest to her than being 'under' him.
You have to figure she was probably passive-aggressive and this was her way of getting back at the milque-toast. What happened to her? More of the birthing thing - she was fated to give birth in pain and blood. And why? Because the poor woman wanted a little knowledge. She decided that this was the key - not playing second fiddle, subservient whore/maidservant to Adam.
What about Jeanne D'Arc? She sought higher knowledge - she received higher knowledge - helped France out in its time of dire need. What happened to her? Poor thing was Bar B Q'ed.
So is this a lesson to all those women who search for something more than secondhand information handed to us by men? Seems so but then again, the mythologies were written by men.
Well, if seeking truth, seeking knowledge will sentence me to playing consort to a fallen angel - sentence me to cramps and Tampax - cause me to be somebody's fire fuel?
Fine.
I'd rather have that knowledge in the end than remain somebody's lackey. I won't take anyone's 'word' for something. Blind faith is simply another word for ignorance. Women were once believed to be at the mercy of the devil - particularly intelligent women - women who sought for more than to be chief cook and bottlewasher. La plus ca change?
And no - I do not hate men. I love men, I cherish men - I think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread but I won't be subservient to one.
I will place myself on equal footing and if said man and/or his brethren can't handle that positioning? Screw them and the antiquated horses they rode in on.
