Ahhh Thelema

Crowley and Thelema

Ahhhhh Thelema

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.
Love is the law, love under will.
There is no law beyond do what thou wilt. .

It seems so simple really, not at all hard to understand. Thelema is the Greek word for will and you find this thing called your "True Will" and you do that and nothing else.

My friends, the Wiccans, have a Will too, theirs is only a little different than mine: An it harm none, Do what thou wilt.
Their will says that, as long as you don't actually hurt anybody you can do Your Will.

There is a pretty standard interpretation of Will actually, Do what I want is the whole of the law, or An it harm none, do what you want.

My question is this, Why would anyone think a spiritual aspiration would be "Do what you want?"

Why would someone think that you would need the admonition "Don't hurt anybody, and you can do what you want"?

Is the wisdom of the ages really akin to "look both ways before you cross the street?"

Somehow I just cannot see the deepest wisest thing the old village wise woman had to pass on as being "Now don't hurt anyone!"

But back to those spoiled brats, the Thelemites. Thelema isn't about some form of weird occult, "cause I say so".

In fact Old Al who wrote one or two books on the subject told us just the opposite, the method of Science, the Aim of Religion. Or something like that, "
Try this, see what happens, write it down. Now see if you can reproduce your results. There are no wrong answers."

In the case of paganism, including Thelema, we have reproduced the Christian Methodology in amazing time. We put people who should be Mystics in positions they should not have, should not want, and should not need. To teach a person to find his spiritual place, you simply have to show him you are spiritual, and suggest what works for you.

My family lived in a Hamlet for a thousand years, it was the first thing they did when they came to Canada. Recreate their hamlet. Near the Church, near the Pub, and close to work. They got a place to live where you could walk to your families house if you needed help. Even today, half of my relations live within 10 minutes walk of my house.

As we walk, trot, or run away from Christianity, we are doing the same thing, we are re-creating the village of Christianity. But we already know that it doesn't work.

I hate to admit it, as a Thelemite, but I am unable to deal with Hebrew. It is always a struggle, but it is my struggle and sometimes I have gained great pleasure from some part of the Tree of Life that suddenly seems to make sense. I am aware that I have friends whose studies are far less basic and far more elegant than mine. But I potter along pleased with what I am able to understand and secure in the knowledge that in case of emergency, I know where to find the answer.

That is the basis of Magick and or Witchcraft, I know where to find an answer. In fact that is the basis for all spirituality, to find the answers or the comfort, or the thing you need when you need it. Whether it be Pan or Isis, Khonsu or Thor, or Maat or Odin, for that matter you the initiate needs must be at home with those you worship. A little bit afraid, a little bit in love, seeking the guidance, support or whatever it is you seek from Your concept of the G*ds.

Magick, or Witchcraft or Wicca or any other path is not about the degrees you get, but rather the joy and comfort, the goodness your G*ds bring into your life. Mine have spaces everywhere in my house, often seen but unseen by guests, but there where I see them, there for me when I need them. I admit I leave something to be desired as a devotee, but, I am sure they would mention it if I stray too far.

Remember that Priesthood stand only as guideposts, if they try to become more, if they demand more, walk away. They are only recreating Christianity, we already have lots of that.

Am I doing my "True Will" I don't know, but I like to hope so. What more can I ask?
